Push notifications and the new web settings

PrayerConnect sends two kinds of notifications:

  • Email — Every member can receive emails for prayer events. You've always been able to control these from the web at Profile → Notification Settings.
  • Push — Mobile-app members can also receive push notifications. Until v1.1.0, push toggles only existed inside the mobile app. As of v1.1.0, the push toggles also appear on the web Notification Settings page so you can manage them from any browser.

Global push toggle #

The new Prayer Processed (push) toggle on the Notification Settings page controls whether your mobile device receives a push when your own prayer goes from Pending to Active. Independent of the existing Prayer Processed (email) toggle — you can have either, both, or neither.

Per-organization push toggles #

Each organization you belong to now shows two columns of toggles: Email and Push (mobile app). The push toggles cover:

  • New prayers submitted to the organization
  • Prayer updates posted by org members
  • New members joining
  • Members requesting to join (for org admins with invite permission)

Turning a push toggle off on the web has the exact same effect as turning it off in the mobile app. The setting is stored once on your account; both surfaces read it.

What you need to do #

Nothing, unless you want to. Your existing email preferences are unchanged. The new push toggles default to on for organizations where you were already receiving push, matching the in-app behavior. If you've never used the mobile app, the push toggles still appear on the web but no notifications fire because no device tokens are registered for your account.

If you don't have the mobile app #

Push toggles are visible on the web page but harmless to leave at default. They only matter if you install the PrayerConnect app on iOS or Android.
